Childbirth Information

Q   What does labor feel like and how will I know what to do?
A   It feels like a strong tightening from the back moving to the front and lasting several seconds. If it is before your 36th week of pregnancy, you should contact your health care provider.

Q   How will I be able to tell when I'm in labor?
A   When your contractions are five minutes apart and lasting for one minute, you are in active labor and should go to the hospital.

Q   When should I go to the hospital?
A   If you have severe abdominal pain or you experience fresh red bleeding, you should go to the hospital immediately. Otherwise, wait until your water breaks, or your contractions are five minutes apart and lasting for a minute.

Q   When I get to the hospital where do I go and what will happen?
A   When you get to the hospital, go to the reception area on the first floor after you enter from the parking garage. The assistant at the reception desk will help you find your way to the labor and delivery unit.
