| Q |
|
Is
there anything I can do to prevent birth defects? |
| A |
|
A vitamin
called folic acid may protect your baby from birth defects of
the brain and spinal cord. Eating healthy foods, like orange
juice, leafy green vegetables and fortified breakfast cereals,
as soon as you know you're pregnant can help your baby grow
healthy. For more healthy eating tips ask the PHI Center about
nutrition during pregnancy. |

| Q |
|
How
can I make sure that my baby isn't born too soon or too small? |
| A |
|
In our
area, two of the most common causes of premature babies-those
who are born too soon and too small are douching and
neglecting your teeth. Both of these things can lead to infections
that cause premature labor. Brush and floss your teeth every
day, and stop douching. |
